Makuei Aken, 17, Sudanese community
Makuei, 17, has lived in Wellington for six years. He’s originally from Sudan, but spent six years living in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya before coming to New Zealand. He says that there are good and bad parts to Kakuma: “The good parts are that everyone’s generous and friendly, there’s no TV to watch so everyone gets outside to play together.” Now that he’s in Wellington, he is studying English at Weltec, and next year wants to study political science at Victoria University. For fun he likes playing ALL sports. (Written by Tessa).
